Hi, I’m Sarah.

I have been practicing as a psychotherapist since 2006 and have maintained a private psychotherapy practice since 2010.

I am skilled and experienced at working with people who have endured trauma, struggle with mental health concerns like depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief/loss, relationship and career struggles, parenting challenges, as well as general dissatisfaction with life or aspects of life.

I have experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups.  A particular area of focus in my practice of late is the perinatal period: working with women who are in the phase of their life where they are trying to conceive, are pregnant, or are postpartum.

As a certified Bioenergetic Therapist (a body-based somatic psychotherapy), I am interested in how people live inside their bodies, move their bodies, hold their bodies, how they breathe, and how they experience and utilize their energy.

For me, these factors are as important a part of a person’s intricate and unique make-up, communicating much about an individual and the life they have lived and live, as they are another doorway to knowing oneself deeply on a conscious level..

I have several post-graduate certifications relevant to my work as a psychotherapist.   A certification in the psychodynamic treatment of eating disorders from The Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia; a certification in Bioenergetic Analysis from the New York Society for Bioenergetic Analysis; and a certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) from Postpartum Support International.

I began my career at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in the West Village of Manhattan, working as a therapist in the Outpatient Chemical Dependence Program, where I worked with people who were trying to achieve and maintain sobriety from alcohol and/or other substances.

After 5 years at St. Vincent’s, the hospital closed permanently, and I moved on to work at The Renfrew Center as a therapist in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), working with women struggling with eating disorders.

During my tenure at Renfrew, I became the Day Treatment Team Leader and eventually the Clinical Supervisor overseeing the clinical and administrative operations of both the Day Treatment and Intensive Outpatient treatment programs.

I have worked as an eating disorder consultant, educator, and treating therapist for the professional dance industry and professional classical ballet schools and companies. I have also been on the faculty and a clinical supervisor for the 2-year training at The Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia.
