Psychotherapy in NYC
MY PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC PERSPECTIVE
Most often, people seek therapy because of some sort of acute or chronic distress: persistent symptoms like PTSD, depression, and anxiety; a relationship conflict; patterns of living that are harmful or distressing, like addictions and eating disorders; and grief and loss.
Typically embedded in these distressing conditions are profound communications about one’s deepest realities. By this, I mean a person’s deepest feelings, attitudes, and perceptions about themselves and the world(s) in which they live, as well as their relationship to the experiences and relationships in their life that have contributed to their formation as a human being.
If that sounds like a hefty load, well, Yes! We are complex and complicated beings.
I believe therapy offers people endless opportunities for slowing down so that they may encounter themselves more directly.
This journey deepens one’s conscious awareness and understanding of who they are, how they live and behave, and how they react to their lives.
By way of this consciousness-raising process, a person can then pursue making changes in their life and in their being because with conscious awareness, a person no longer must behave out of compulsion, impulse, negativity, and habit. They can now make intentional choices that they can feel good about, choices that are constructive, productive, responsible, and integral.
This is a deep level of self-exploration and excavation. The impact has the potential to make profound and lasting positive change.
Bioenergetic Therapy
Bioenergetic psychotherapy is a theory of psychotherapy with specific interventions and therapeutic tools that incorporates the idea that a person’s sense of oneself and their experiences of the world around them are felt and expressed at all levels of their being, not only in their mind, but also in their body. This includes how we breathe, how we hold and move ourselves, and how we experience and utilize our energy. As a bioenergetic therapist, I draw on unique tools for working directly with the body as an additional path to facilitate raising consciousness and improving one’s wellbeing and connection to oneself and the world.
